April 2020 Newsletter from Thurston Nature Center

Greetings Friends of the Thurston Nature Center,

I sincerely hope this finds you, as well as your families, safe and well.
With all the changes to our daily routines due to the COVID-19 crisis, come many challenges. For some of you the situation may cause some fear and anxiousness. For others it has been a catalyst toward enjoying freedom and Shabbat rest. Perhaps like me, you are somewhere in between.

Wherever and however you are feeling, know that we are all in this together and we are here for you.  The Thurston Nature Center Committee extends a permanent invitation to come and visit our beloved space. With many areas closing down, we remain committed to keeping the pathways open for you to come and enjoy.

We encourage you to maintain 6 feet between yourself and others in accordance with the guidelines health experts caution us to use.

We also encourage you to wash up after spending time outdoors and check for ticks. Yes, it’s that time of year when ticks are beginning to move about.

It’s also time for spring wildflowers and migratory birds. Mornings are a great time to come to hear the song birds and the afternoons are wonderful to see the flowers that have been warmed by the sun. Check out all the wonderful photos on our Facebook page.

In closing I would like to leave you with this quote:

Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature-an assurance that dawn comes after the night, spring after the winter.
– Rachel Carson

Best wishes,
